Michael began a life-long study of hypnosis at a young age and discovered the connection between acting and hypnosis while attending Brooks Institute, Santa Barbara, Ca. in 1978. Michael’s hypnotherapy certifications come from two separate schools; International Association of Counselors and Therapists, Laceyville, Pa. (IACT) and Hypnosis Motivation Institute, Los Angeles, Ca. (HMI).
Nona Jedelle Givens, C.Ht,
Jedelle studied psychology at Trident Technical College, Charleston, SC. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are very powerful tools that can treat a vast array of issues and conditions.
It would be nearly impossible to list every possible application in detail, but here is a partial list of the common applications that we can assist you with using our techniques.
Hypnotherapy is a natural and organic process of tapping into the power of your own mind to achieve your self-improvement goals. Many people think of hypnotherapy only for use with habits such as stop smoking or losing weight. While it certainly is good for those, the power of the mind has no limits for personal application.
As Hypnotherapists, we work with an almost endless array of personal achievement goals. In some cases a medical referral may be required for issues of pain management and other medical related issues. If you are working with another counseling professional already or have goals beyond personal self-improvement then we may ask for a referral from the appropriate psychology professional.
The list below can give you the general idea of the possible applications of hypnotherapy at Atlanta Hypnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a heightened state of focus and suggestibility in which the body and conscious mind are in a relaxed, natural state while the subconscious mind remains very alert and receptive to positive suggestions for change. People often refer to hypnosis as a “trance-like state,” where one can concentrate intensely on a specific thought, memory, feeling or sensation while blocking out distractions.
Hypnosis is a tool used to bypass the critical analysis of your mind so that the suggestions can be accepted and then incorporated into a new “automatic” behavior. While hypnosis can be used for personal benefit, it cannot cause you to do anything against your free will or ethics.
Therapeutic hypnosis is used to improve your health and well-being and is different from stage hypnosis that is used for entertainment purposes only.
Therapy is often a matter of tipping the first domino. —Milton H. Erickson, M.D.
Testimonials
I am an actor who has seen my career blossom due in large part to the hypnotic techniques used by Michael Givens. I could speak for days about the advantages of working with him in any artistic or business endeavor, I’ve done it for years. But one evening, I suddenly suffered a heart attack. I was rushed to the hospital and was quickly scheduled for a triple by-pass. I called Michael and he came right to the hospital. He asked me and the staff a lot of questions, then he sat with me and talked me into a much needed peaceful state of relaxation. He calmed my nerves and made me ready for what was to come. I was then taken into surgery. Michael had recorded the hypnosis session and left instructions for me to listen to it every day after the procedure. When I awoke after surgery, I had no pain. That day I listened to the recording three times. I listened every day. I remained calm and just as Michael said, I healed fast. My surgeon was astonished at my recovery and he told me that I was healing faster than any patient he had seen in his whole career. I attribute this to the great work of the medical team and Michael’s care and understanding of the problem. A few years later, I found myself on the surgeon’s table again for a gall bladder issue. I used Michael’s recording again and enjoyed similar results. In both cases, I was back to work and feeling great in no time. I can honestly say, Michael’s work is not just a game-changer, but a life-saver. —John Quick (Charleston)
I was the lead on a movie that Michael was directing. One day I had a very emotional scene to play and was having problems finding my core. I asked Michael if he could do his “thing” for me. He asked me a few things about influential people in my life. Then, he set up the shot, hid in the middle of the set behind some furniture and literally hypnotized me during and through the scene. We did it in one shot. It was a beautiful and moving scene, that I’ll never forget. —V. Bloom (Los Angeles)
Smoking was my go-to demon. I had traded cigarettes years earlier for the new craze, vaping. I wanted to quit but I just couldn’t shake it. I didn’t live near Jedelle but wanted to work with her, so she offered to work with me via telephone and Skype. I loved her sense of calm and could tell that she really cared. She showed me ways to replace cravings and set myself free from the grip of smoking. It was wonderful to be able to do all this from my own home. I enjoyed the process with Jedelle and look forward to living a more full life. Thank you. —Devin Jenkins (Asheville)
Michael is that special sort of being that seems to be able to hear a word not spoken, a note not played, a cry not cried. I went to him to tackle my smoking addiction and discovered what was truly holding me back. It was much more than smoking. He led me to a place where I could see the monsters that had been tearing at me for years. His manner allowed me to relive some situations that were affecting my life poorly. I began to see things differently. My life changed for the better. It was a wonderful experience. —Brett Kanea (Greenville)
Anxiety has been a constant companion with me for as long as I can remember. Lurking over my shoulder, whispering in my ear and showing it’s awful face at the worst times. I tried talk therapy and felt like I was getting nowhere. Anxiety just laughed at me. Then I met Jedelle and Michael. They taught me some exercises to strengthen my memory. Jedelle used hypnosis to take me back in my life to find the source of my anxiety. It didn’t stop there; we travelled back into a previous life that I had lived. The journey was amazing. It was like watching a movie where I was the star. And it was there in this other life that I found the reason for my anxiety and worry. Understanding the cause allowed me to say goodbye to my anxiety companion. I have been enjoying a calm life ever since. — Paige Olive (Atlanta)
Jedelle gave me a new perspective to my life. The weight I lost was great but the new person I’ve become is the real change. Thank you for lighting my darkness. Life is good. —Nona Cash (Charleston)
I had been biting my nails since I was a child. It was embarrassing, but I had tried to stop many times, with no luck. One hour with Michael and I’ve been bite-free for over two years now. Cheers! —Cassiano Pereira (Los Angeles)
While making a movie with Michael Givens, I was suffering from a block. We really did not have much time as we were just about to shoot. I had heard about Michael’s work with hypnosis for actors and ask him if he could help me. We went to a quiet room, he spoke words that totally relaxed me. Then gave me a series of hypnotic images that put me right on track. What an amazing gift. I hope to go deeper into his techniques sometime soon. —Conner Floyd (Los Angeles)
